Host of “Show’s Yer Metal”. “I have loved Heavy Metal since I was about 13-when Iron Maiden brought out “The Number of the Beast” and it has always played a big part in my life, as most of my friends and relationships are also fans of the genre. I will admit to being stuck mainly in the 80’s where metal is concerned though as in my opinion that is the era that the best tunes and songs were written, although both my children have also developed a taste for it, introducing me to the more modern acts like Slipknot, My Chemical Romance etc changing my views slightly. My CD collection/MP3 player is not exclusive to heavy metal though, I do like other types of music that I listen to regularly including classical and musicals, heavy metal though, will always be my first choice. I also love performing in different ways (acting, dancing etc) so presenting my own radio show pulls together two of my main joys in life!”

Fay Davidson

-Monday 8pm-10pm

“No one’s bettered radio as the way to hear new music.”
Michael Nutley, Editor, New Media Age

Bute FM provides you with the ideal opportunity for your business, product or service to reach a discerning audience at advertising rates that meet tight budgets.

Bute FM provides competitive advertising and sponsorship packages and, whether you are a start-up solo business or a more established company, we have a package to suit you and make your promotional budget work hard for you. Programme sponsorship can cost as little as £50 per 2-hour show: ideal when you want to combat economic downturn.

Bute FM broadcasts to the Isle of Bute, both on 96.5 MHz FM long wave band – to an area with a total population of 7,228 – and online through this website.

SPOT ADVERTISING

Bute FM offers the opportunity to raise your profile, targeting a specific market in a very cost effective manner with our spot advertising packages.

SPONSORSHIP

Sponsorship of programmes on Bute FM is a way to build a special relationship with our listeners through association with presenters, programmes and services.

ONLINE INTERNET LISTENING

• Recent research into internet ‘surfing’ behaviour revealed that 20% of internet users are listening to radio at any time (Clark Chapman Research 2006). This is great news for businesses which use the web to bring customers in, as it means many of the listeners can go and check the website immediately.

• Online and radio are the only media predicted to grow audience. The huge growth in online audience is increasingly affecting time spent with other (traditional) media – radio is the only traditional medium that people predict they will be spending more time with in the near future.

Size of opportunity

• Almost 50% listen to radio when online each week 67% of the sample claimed that they ever listen to radio when online and 72% of these claimed to have listened in the last week (i.e. 48% of total sample). The Clark Chapman research also suggests that at any given time 20% of people who are online are also listening to radio – making this conjunction a significant media opportunity in its own right (Source: CanStream)

Communication effects

• Online and radio provide complementary rational and emotional consumer benefits. Online is perceived as a convenient channel for helping people find what they want, when they want it, whereas radio is perceived as offering the human touch, helping to shape the moods and rhythm of the day. In conjunction, they feed each other by keeping the consumer engaged across each other’s momentary low points, leading to an increase in overall time spent with this media combination.

• Bute FM online is ‘social connectivity’ media. Radio broadcasting and online internet listening are both perceived as providing connection with people’s social communities but on different levels. Online operates more within people’s immediate social network, allowing them to stay in touch with friends and highly defined communities of interest like at butefm.org.uk Radio connects people with their wider network e.g. their community of interest.

• Radio is the most flexible medium. Business conditions can change fast and Bute FM is well set to meet those changes. Production of commercials is quick and relatively low-cost at only £30 per script and this allows advertisers to put out just the right message at the right time. This flexibility works particularly well for advertisers whose business changes fast with late deals, extended sales, reaction to news/weather with late deals, extended sales and offers.

Bute FM broadcasts a diverse mix of music of all styles including: Golden Oldies, Pop, Rock, Dance, Blues, Celtic and many, many others.

Our regular specialist music shows are intended encourage contributions from people of all ages who want to share their musical interests with the community.

Additional programming will, in time, include the broadcasting of live music by, and interviews with, local artists in order to raise their profile. It is our intention that the service will provide more publicity for local events and activities, thereby increasing community participation.

Yearly there will be specialist programmes broadcast during Bute’s internationally renowned Jazz Festival and other such events, so as to allow people who may not be able to get out and about to enjoy and participate in these popular gatherings.

We hope that the information available here gives you a good idea of what we’ve been up to since being awarded our licence in 2007, what we will be doing in the near future and how you can get involved in helping us to deliver your community radio station.
Bute FM is devoted to the people of Bute, broadcasting a diverse mix of musical styles for people of all ages, whilst providing important community information such as the weather, ferry crossings and road conditions. Arts and entertainment events, community group information and general items of local social and political interest will be on the menu also.It is our intention that by broadcasting specific programme strands, weekly debates and weekly topical studio guest interviews this will enable the station to cover relevant news and grass-roots culture & heritage issues in great depth, and facilitate discussion and expression of opinion in our community.
Additionally, regular specialist music shows and discussion forum shows will encourage contributions from people who want to share their interests and opinions with our community, via an exciting new medium. Regular feedback from you – our community – will be welcomed, in order to enable us to tailor the service to your requirements and fill any gaps in our provision, thereby creating a successful interactive social inclusion project for everyone in the community to embrace.
Currently we are operating a weekly lottery that, with a healthy support from the community, will help us to fund your community radio station. The more people that play each week, the sooner Bute FM can begin to fulfil its many social gain objectives!
If you want to get in touch with us just now please e-mail butefm @ yahoo.co.uk (without the spaces) or check out our Bebo, MySpace andFacebook pages and leave us a comment – or even follow us on Twitter.

Bute FM 96.5 team

PS. Our logo was designed by Meghan Bagan, whom we deemed to have produced the best logo design – from a strong field – in a competition last year.
